The JEPM

General Information

The Journal of Engineering and Processing Management (JEPM) is an international, peer-reviewed, open access journal published by the Faculty of Technology Zvornik, University of East Sarajevo, in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It provides a platform for publication without any charges, free for author and reader: diamond open access. Content is freely accessible to any reader worldwide, and articles are available online immediately upon publication.

JEPM published its first articles in 2009 and has moved to an online-only format from 2023. The journal publishes original scientific papers, review papers, professional papers and shorter forms across chemical and environmental engineering and food science and technology, aiming to make complete and reliable accounts of current work freely available to researchers worldwide, without restriction or subscription.

Whether you are a scholar or a practitioner, JEPM aims to be a dependable source of the new results, methods and fresh perspectives you need to stay current in chemical and environmental engineering and in food science and technology.

Comprehensive Coverage

Coverage runs across the full span of the disciplines named in the journal's subtitle, from chemical engineering through environmental engineering to food science and technology, and from laboratory investigation through to plant-scale operation.

Alongside these, JEPM covers the management dimension that is inseparable from those disciplines in practice: process management in chemical plants, waste and emission management in environmental engineering, quality management in food production, and resource and energy management in industrial processing. Contributions are welcomed from an international authorship, and work that reports on processes and operations in their real industrial and regulatory setting is particularly valued.

Journal Metrics

Each article page displays its own view and download counts, and citation data is available through the indexing services that cover the journal. JEPM does not currently hold a Journal Impact Factor. The full list of services indexing JEPM is given on the Indexing and Archiving page.

Key Facts

  • Diamond Open Access. All articles are freely accessible to everyone immediately upon publication, with no registration required to read. Publication costs are met by the Faculty of Technology Zvornik, University of East Sarajevo, with additional support from the responsible ministry of the Republic of Srpska.
  • No Publication Fees. Publishing in JEPM is free of charge. There is no article processing charge, no submission fee and no other publication charge, and no subscription is required to read.
  • General Publication Criteria. The main criteria for acceptance are that the work is scientifically sound, complete, methodologically correct and clearly presented, and that it falls within the scope of the journal. Careful, well-reported work that confirms, extends or applies existing knowledge is welcome, as are negative results, provided the science is sound and the reporting is honest and complete.
  • Peer Review. Every manuscript except Editorials undergoes double-blind peer review: the identities of reviewers are not disclosed to authors, and the identities of authors are not disclosed to reviewers. Manuscripts are normally sent to two independent reviewers, who are asked to report within 15 days. The average time from submission to first decision is two to three weeks, and the journal aims to complete peer review within 100 days of submission. The handling Editor makes the final decision on the basis of the reviewers' reports.
  • Authors Retain Copyright. Authors retain full copyright of their articles. Articles are published under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International Licence (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0).
  • Indexed and Archived. JEPM is indexed by a range of services, among them the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), BASE, CAB Abstracts, CAS databases, Dimensions, EBSCOhost, FSTA, Scilit and COBISS+. The complete list is given on the Indexing and Archiving page. The journal uses the LOCKSS system to allow participating libraries to maintain permanent archives for preservation and restoration.
  • Self-Archiving. Authors may deposit the publisher's version or PDF, though not the Online First version, in an institutional or non-commercial repository, on a personal or departmental website, or on academic networking sites such as ResearchGate and Academia.edu, at any time after publication and with no embargo.
  • Preprints. Manuscripts posted on non-commercial preprint servers such as arXiv, bioRxiv or chemRxiv, published as a thesis, or presented at a conference will be considered for publication. Authors should note the use of such material in the Acknowledgments section and cite it properly. Work that has been published, or is under consideration, in another peer-reviewed journal will not be considered.
  • Your Paper, Your Way. JEPM distinguishes between the requirements for new and revised submissions. You may submit your manuscript as a single Word or PDF file for the refereeing process, and will only be asked to put it into its final format once the paper reaches the revision stage.
  • Data and Reporting. The Materials and Methods section should give sufficient detail to allow the work to be repeated, including suppliers of materials and reagents where these might affect the results. Furthermore, when possible, all data associated with and supporting the research results in an article should be made freely available to allow others to verify and build on. Authors are encouraged to deposit relevant data in appropriate and publicly accessible databases and repositories.
  • Similarity Check. All submitted manuscripts are screened with iThenticate for overlapping or similar text in previously published work. Any paper showing obvious signs of plagiarism is rejected. Please refer to our Instructions for Authors for details regarding our plagiarism policy.
  • Publication Frequency. JEPM is published semiannually, as one volume with two issues per year.

Bibliographic Information

  • DOI prefix 10.61458/jepm

Article Types

  • Original scientific paper. Reports new findings not published elsewhere, including negative results. Papers must represent sound science, be complete, and be presented clearly and concisely.
  • Review paper. Including mini-reviews. Provides an overview of a sub-field, bringing recently published work together so that a broader audience, or those new to the field, can follow recent advances.
  • Professional paper. Grounded in firsthand experience, contributing to ongoing discourse in a field and aiming to inform, guide and improve practice within a professional domain.
  • Perspective. Perspective papers are concise reflections on recent findings, publications, research or initiatives within the journal's scope, intended to stimulate discussion and reach a wider audience.
  • Letter to the Editor. A short commentary on a published article, offering an alternative interpretation, correcting an unnoticed error, or extending a discussion. Normally peer reviewed by the Editor-in-Chief.
  • Editorial. Not peer-reviewed, and written by the Editor-in-Chief or a member of the Editorial Board. Editorials introduce the aims of the journal or address a current topic, contain no unpublished or original data, and can be cited by DOI. Unsolicited Editorials are not considered.

Citing Articles in JEPM

References in JEPM are laid out according to APA style, and it is recommended that the DOI be included in every reference. An article should be cited as in this example:

Riđošić, M. (2017). Corrosion stability of electrochemically deposited Zn–Mn coatings. Journal of Engineering and Processing Management, 9(1), 24–28. https://doi.org/10.7251/JEPM1709024R

Note that JEPM has used two DOI prefixes over its history. Articles published up to [YEAR] carry DOIs beginning 10.7251; articles published from [YEAR] carry the current prefix, 10.61458. Both resolve normally through doi.org, and the DOI printed on the article itself should always be the one cited.

Manuscript Submission

Manuscripts are submitted and reviewed through the journal's web-based submission system. New authors should create an account before submitting. Manuscripts should be prepared in MS Word as a .doc or .docx file or as a PDF, and must be accompanied by a cover letter describing, in three or four sentences, how the work relates to the scope of the journal, the aims of the study and its significance in relation to previously published work. Authors are also asked to suggest three potential reviewers. Editors retain the right to use their discretion to select reviewers they deem appropriate, which may or may not include those suggested by authors.

We encourage the submitting author and all co-authors to provide their ORCID iD when submitting; this information appears with the published article.

Full details of preparation and formatting are given in the Author Guidelines, and the review and decision process is described on the Editorial Policy page.
